Jean Boiteux (20 June 1933 – 11 April 2010〔 (''Jean Boiteux n'est plus'' ), lequipe.fr, April 12, 2010.〕) was a French swimmer and Olympic champion.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/bo/jean-boiteux-1.html )〕 He was born in Marseilles. He competed at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, where he received a gold medal in ''400 m freestyle''.〔("1952 Olympics – Helsinki, Finland – Swimming" ) – ''databaseOlympics.com'' (Retrieved on August 30, 2008)〕 He received a bronze medal in ''4 x 200 m freestyle relay'' with the French team (with Joseph Bernardo, Aldo Eminente and Alexandre Jany). Boiteux was the first person from France to win an Olympic gold medal in Swimming. The Jean-Boiteux Grand Prix swimming meet in Bordeaux, was started by him in 1973 and is now name after him.〔

Boiteux died after falling from a tree in his garden on 11 April 2010 at the age of 76.
